Traverse City Beach Bums’ catcher Robbie Alcombrack was recently signed by the Texas Rangers.
Alcombrack, 21, was selected in the 7th round of the 2006 MLB draft out of Beaver River High School, California, by the Cleveland Indians. The 6’0″ 205-pound catcher spent three seasons in the minors with the Indians before coming to Traverse City in 2009, where he hit .246 with 20 extra base hits in just 183 at-bats. Despite some nagging injuries that limited him to just 57 games, Alcombrack’s ten home runs would have tied a Beach Bums single season record if not for teammate John Alonso’s fifteen. Defensively, Alcombrack ranked 4th amongst Frontier League catchers by throwing out 30% of runners attempting to steal.
Alcombrack is the 6th Frontier League player to be sold to an MLB organization since the end of he 2009 season.
