IBA’s College Prep Program’s Top Prospect Rankings through 11/14

IBA’s College Prep Program’s Top Prospects is brought to you by Five Tool Prospects (www.fivetoolprospects.com). The next College Prep event is schedule for 11/21 with Ball State Assistant Coach Pete Milas in attendance. Contact indyiba@yahoo.com to register.

Top Prospects – 2010

1. Evan Moncrief – 1B/3B/OF – Pike – Moncrief’s large frame (6‘3” 235-lb) helps him project to be a power hitter at the next level and possibly beyond. He has athletic movements for his size that could help him get into the lineup at 3B and a corner OF position as well as 1B at the collegiate level.

2.  Aaron Goode – LHP/OF – Pike – Goode’s 12-to-6 breaking ball is his best weapon, but also showed good movement on his fastball and change. Some mechanical tweaks are necessary, but he has the potential to add some MPH down the road.

Top Prospects – 2011

1.  Tyler Hampton – C/OF – Brownsburg – Hampton is good behind the plate and had consistent pop times from 2.0-2.1, topping out at 1.94. His lean, wiry frame has the ability to put on 15-20 pounds in college to add some power to his line drive swing.

2.  Chris Wiles – LHP/OF – Lawrence North – Wiles’ long, lanky delivery has been in the upper 70s in the past, but topped out at 74 MPH on 11/14. He has a good feel for three pitches and should be able to quickly add some jump to his ball once he gets in a college-level strength program.

3.  Jay Smith – OF/3B – Anderson – Smith has good baseball instincts and quickly made adjustments to improve his hands, footwork, and throwing mechanics. He has the skill set to be a solid utility-type player at the small-college level.

Top Prospects – 2012

1. Nick Barrientos – OF/LHP – Zionsville – Barrientos’ best tool is his bat where he shows the ability spray the ball to all fields and has some power potential as he continues to fill out. He has good arm strength and speed as a sophomore and will continue to pick up velocity as he cleans up his throwing and running mechanics.
